Students can join Psi Chi, Psych Iowa, or both. These two groups are listed together as an official UI student organization called Psi Chi + Psych Iowa.
Both Psi Chi and Psych Iowa are designed for students with interests in psychology. They aim to foster student knowledge, networking, and social collaboration through various events, such as career-path sessions, philanthropy events, study groups, and presentations by professors and professionals in the psychology field.
Psi Chi
Psi Chi is an international honors society, with a local chapter here at the University of Iowa. The society was created for psychology students in universities to foster their studies and networking opportunities. The local chapter was established in 1984.
To be eligible for Psi Chi, a student must:
- be a psychology major or minor
- be at least a second semester sophomore
- have completed at least 9 hours of psychology coursework
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a psychology major GPA of a 3.0
Students interested in joining Psi Chi should do all of the following: (1) verify their eligibility, (2) click “join” at Psi Chi + Psych Iowa, (3) apply/join on the Psi Chi society’s website.
Psych Iowa
Psych Iowa is an open group without GPA or credit requirements. It’s for any interested UI undergraduate student. Students interested in joining Psych Iowa can start by clicking “join” at Psi Chi + Psych Iowa.
