For the other course, the student must register for one of the following internship courses: Internship in Liberal Arts and Sciences (CCP:1005), Academic Internship (CCP:1201), or the less commonly used options of HONR:3150 or HONR:3160.  See below for more details about those.

  • CCP:1005 Internship in Liberal Arts and Sciences (0 semester hours)
    • Requires approximately 10 semester hours a week
    • Ideal for situations in which for credit enrollment would mean additional cost (summers); enrolling in more than 18 semester hours for the student; or the student does not need to earn credits for the experience.

  • CCP:1201 Academic internship (1-3 semester hours)
    • Requires 75 service hours per credit
    • Ideal for students who need to fulfill elective credit hours
    • Requires additional work including a journal of the experience and a reflective essay, though the essay required for honors in the major should be able to be used to satisfy the course essay requirement, as well.

  • HONR:3150 Honors service learning (1-3 semester hours)
    • Requires 3 hours a week commitment, per each 1 credit earned
    • Requires more active engagement of faculty through collaborative design of the internship/service project
    • If a student is interested in earning credits through this course, please refer to the Honors Program.
      • Student must be a member of the Honors Program; 2) Student must enroll under the faculty mentor in MyUI; 3) To earn honors credit the student will need to complete the reflection process which includes the pre-experience questionnaire, post-experience questionnaire, and narrative submission form. Questions should be directed to Andy Willard (andrew-willard@uiowa.edu ). Grading: A-F (honors credit will not be awarded if a non-passing grade is received)
         
  • HONR:3160 Honors internship (0-3 semester hours)
    • Requires 3 hours a week commitment, per each 1 credit earned
    • Requires more active engagement of faculty through collaborative design of the internship/service project
