Dr. Jan Wessel, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, the Department of Neurology, and the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, has received a 5-year, $2.3 million grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The research project, which will be performed in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery at UIHC, aims to investigate burst-like β-band activity – a novel feature found in neural recordings from the human brain – and its relation to the control of movement in the healthy brain, as well as in common movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s disease).
