The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences is pleased to announce that Miriam Vélez-Bermúdez has been awarded a National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Her project, “Dialysis Modality Decision Making in Adults with ESRD (End-Stage Renal Disease),” will examine the decision-making processes among patients with ESRD, comparing the experiences and characteristics of patients undergoing in-center dialysis compared to home dialysis. Her research will shed light on decision-making processes and other characteristics involved in choosing in-center vs. home dialysis. The work will be carried out under the supervision of Miriam’s advisors, Dr. Alan Christensen (now at Eastern Carolina University), Dr. Susan Lutgendorf (Psychological and Brain Sciences), and Dr. Natoshia Askelson (Department of Community and Behavioral Health).
