Why External Internships?
Student participation in internships and volunteer/service commitments within their chosen field provides the experiences necessary for employment and the avenue to explore different career paths. These experiences can be especially important for students planning to pursue graduate work. An additional benefit of connecting this experience with Honors in the major is to connect with a faculty member to serve as supervisor.
Students often find it difficult to build relationships with faculty members within a large department, this can be particularly true for students with aspirations outside of a career in research. For these strong students, this is an opportunity to build these relationships while they can gain the requisite experiences and connections to be strong candidates for future graduate study and careers.
