Katherine Jonas, Spence Award Talk
Abstract: The weaknesses of current diagnostic systems have led to the development of multiple alternative models: the National Institutes of Health's Research Domain Criteria (RDoC), and the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) are but two. At the heart of the debate among these competing models are questions of measurement. What should we measure, at what levels of analysis, and how? This talk will, through a series of analyses, outline modern principles of psychological measurement, and discuss how measurement both reflects and defines how we think of mental illness.
