Chris Oehler

Project Coordinator/Lab Manager

Chris is originally from Iowa and received his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Iowa. He then completed his Master's degree in Experimental Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. Chris has worked on research in a variety of areas in Psychology including Cognitive, Social, Clinical, and Behavioral Neuroscience. He is currently the project coordinator for both Brain Extend & Better Aging projects. When not in the lab, Chris enjoys spending time with his dog Bailey and working on home renovation projects with his wife.


Abby O'Deen

Exercise Specialist

Abby is originally from Morrison, Illinois and graduated from North Central College in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. She is currently the Exercise Specialist for the Brain Extend study. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, reading, and working out.

Kelsey B

Kelsey Baller

Research Assistant

Kelsey received her BS in psychology and minor in Spanish from the University of Iowa. Kelsey plans on working with the lab to expand upon her research skills before heading off to graduate school. She has previous lab experience but is excited to work with the Voss Lab as a large portion of the research done is on aging. Kelsey is primarily interested in memory disorders and how individual’s skills and functioning change with age. She is interested in ways to provide an optimal but safe life for individuals as these changes occur and ways to prevent/reverse these changes. She plans to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology in order to become a neuropsychologist.

Chase Hamilton

Project Coordinator/Lab Manager

Chase is originally from Hinsdale, Illinois and graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2018 with his BA in Psychology. He started in the lab as an undergraduate and then led the BIKE Extend study for two years. When not in the lab he enjoys playing basketball, reading, and spending time doing activities outdoors. He is currently a research assistant at Wheaton College, and hopes to attend graduate school for clinical psychology.


Conner Wharff

Project Coordinator/Lab Manager

Conner graduated from the University of Iowa in 2015 with a BA in Psychology. Previously, he was the Lab Manager and Project Coordinator for the BIKE and Aging Mind and Brain Initiatve (AMBI) studies. In his free time, he enjoys reading, playing soccer, and watching movies.


Lauren Reist

Exercise specialist

Lauren is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology with a Psychology Minor, and in May 2016 with a Master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Lauren was previously the exercise specialist for the BIKE study.  When not in the lab, she enjoys being outside, cooking, baking, and reading.


Seima Al-Momani

Research Assistant

Seima graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is a Jordanian-American, originally from Iowa City, IA. Seima is interested in studying changes in the brain that occur due to aging, how exercise affects cognitive functioning, as well as how the brain adapts to injuries and diseases. Her favorite part of research is getting to work with participants, and learning different techniques of studying the brain and behavior. She's planning on doing her graduate studies in Clinical Neuropsychology. Her ultimate goal is to continue conducting research, work with patients, and teach at a university level. In her spare time, Seima enjoys hanging out with her family and friends, spending time outdoors hiking, and enjoying different water sports.

Chris is from Clinton, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Human Relations. He was previously the Project Manager for both the ALERT and PACR research projects investigating the effects of adaptive cognitive training programs on brain functioning. Chris now attends Texas Tech University and is pursuing his Ph.D in Clinical Psychology.

Elaine is from Mundelein, Illinois and graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Human Relations. Elaine was previously the Project Manager for both PACR and ALERT studies in addition to co-Lab Manager. Elaine is currently attending Rosalind Franklin University in pursuit of her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

Anna Carano

Exercise Specialist
Anna is from Ames, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2015 with a master’s degree in exercise physiology.  Anna was previously our exercise specialist for BIKE study; she additionally worked with Dr. Gary Pierce's Translational Vascular Physiology Lab.  She is currently pursuing her BSN.

MaggieMaggie Swift

Project Manager
Maggie is from Dubuque, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology. Her previous research experience was in the Health and Human Physiology Department in sedentary behaviorism. She is now a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with specialty in Anesthesiology.

MerryMerry Mani

Neuroimaging Research Technician
Merry's interests focus on fMRI data analysis. She is now an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Iowa, with a focus on pulse sequence design and diffusion imaging (faculty profile).

MeredithMeredith Hoyland Palm

Lab Manager
An Iowa City native, Meredith is a 2013 graduate of Luther College with a major in psychology. She previously worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics studying aging, vascular disease and cognition. Meredith earned her PhD in psychology at Baylor University, where she now teaches in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience (faculty profile).

KristinKristin DeCorrevont

Lab Manager
Kristin graduated from the University of Iowa in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Her research background is in behavioral neuroscience, focusing on decision-making in older adults. She is currently studying leadership at Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
